MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Monday, people will be able to go where they have never gone before. Starting at 9 a.m., people will be allowed to set foot on the balcony where Dr. Martin Luther King died.

Since the National Civil Rights Museum opened in 1991, the balcony where Dr. King was killed has been off limits to visitors - until today.

We are told this experience will only be offered for a limited time. The balcony will be open for tours while the museum undergoes a major, year-long renovation costing $27 million. The upgrades include more modern technology and exhibits.

But when the renovations are complete, the Commercial Appeal reports the balcony will close again to the public.

The cost to experience the balcony tour is $10. And that will also include a tour of the Legacy Building just across the street from the museum's main building.

Executives at the museum say you can line up there starting at 8:45 this morning. The museum will be open today during its regular hours, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
