Tennessee proves to be a good place to travel over Thanksgiving

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - More than 43 million Americans will be traveling for the Thanksgiving holiday. In Tennessee, 1 million travelers are expected.

More families are hitting the highway this Thanksgiving holiday and law enforcement here in the Mid-South will be on their toes.

"We focus on seat belts, people that are buckled. We want people to buckle up and be safe during this holiday, focus on speed and impaired drivers," said Cpl. Joe Williams, Arkansas State Police.

In Tennessee, about 1 million drivers are expected to go more than 50 miles this weekend. The good news is that Memphis and the Mid-South has some of the cheapest gas in the country. Some gas stations are selling below $3 per gallon. And Tennessee roads should be clear of construction.

State transportation leaders say all of TDOT's construction projects, like the one on Germantown Road and Poplar Avenue, will not keep any lanes closed from Wednesday afternoon until Monday morning so traffic can flow as smoothly as possible this holiday weekend.
