HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

Thanksgiving is a time to stop and be thankful for what you have but also consider those who are less fortunate.

That's why hundreds of volunteers are planning on buying, boxing, and delivering meals to those in need this year.

The Downtown Rescue Mission in Huntsville is in the middle of a massive project, and they're still looking for more help.

They're boxing up 876 food boxes, complete with turkeys for folks right here in the Valley.

This year, the need is much greater than usual.

"This year it's been a little bit more than usual. We're up about 20 percent over last year, and we really think it's due to the economic times we're going through right now," said Keith Overholt, President and CEO of the Downtown Rescue Mission.

If you want to donate time or money, the Downtown Rescue Mission is located at 1400 Evangel Drive in Huntsville.
