MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - One Mid-South family is embracing Thanksgiving in a new way, after their 1-year-old son died in a tragic accident.
"They told us he was brain dead. The worst moment for me was signing the papers saying I would donate his organs," said Cortney May.
Jackson May was destined to leave a lasting legacy.
Last year, the one year old little boy was being pushed in his stroller when a dead tree fell on him, leaving him brain dead.
Little Jackson died shortly after the accident.
His parents, Bryan and Cortney May, decided to donate his organs.
"This one is living and Jackson is still living because his organ is inside this man," said Cortney.
James Livingston, 64, is from Johnson City, Tennessee. He received a kidney from 1-year-old Jackson.
On Wednesday, Livingston was united with the May family for the very first time.
The two met on the show "Anderson Live" in New York City.
"I want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart. I really appreciate it. You may have lost a son but you've gained a father with me," said Livingston.
His parents say little Jackson will always be remembered for his infectious smile and love for life.
And now, his life can continue in the lives of many others like Livingston, thanks to organ donation.
"We have three children and we have a grandson and now he can be with his family and be there for his grandkids and I just can't say that enough," said James' wife, Carolyn Livingston.
