(WMC-TV) - FedEx hired thousands of seasonal helpers to help them get through the holiday rush.
Dec. 10 is the shipping giant's busiest day of the year and they expect to ship more packages this year than last.
A new FedEx ad campaign drives home the point that unlike most holiday deals, saving money at FedEx Office doesn't require drastic measures.
The shipping giant is gearing up for their holiday rush.
Dec. 10 will be their busiest day of the year when they expect to ship more than 19 million packages.
That's a projected 10 percent increase over last year's busiest shipping day, and more than double the amount of packages on a typical day.
An onslaught of deliveries is being driven by an ever increasing number of online shoppers who forgo camping out and long lines and instead, shop from home.
In order to handle the increased volume the company added about 20,000 seasonal jobs.
In stores and online, The National Retail Federation expects holiday sales to increase at least by 4 percent this year compared to last year.
Shopping online is expected to grow by 16.8 percent. An anticipated 54 billion dollar business.
According to the U.S. Department of Commerce, almost 1 out of every 10 dollars is now spent online.
FedEx is reaping the benefits of holiday shoppers who want to skip the crowds.
It will cost you less to ship this Christmas than next.
FedEx Express package and freight rates will increase an average of 5.9 percent beginning Jan. 7.
