Local businesses could soon share money with schools

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis school board commissioner wants some businesses that get tax breaks to share more of their money with the education system.

Tuesday, Freda Williams, Unified School Board Commissioner, will propose a resolution aimed at recapturing some education funding annually lost to tax abatement for new and expanding businesses.

That is according to The Commercial Appeal.

The mayors of Memphis and Shelby County both told the newspaper they are willing to explore and discuss the idea.
