Heightened security makes for long lines at FedExForum

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – Heightened security measures could keep you out of the FedEx Forum when the Grizzlies are playing.  The NBA security crackdown is making for long lines in advance of home games.

"This is a mandate by the NBA," said Eric Granger, vice president of arena operations. "Once we get people used to it, it'll just be part of our procedures."

Starting immediately, "hand wanding" security procedures will be in place for all fans entering the arena at half of all Grizzlies games through mid-February.

After February, it will be required for all games.

"Just arrive early. You will see some long lines. Don't be scared about them. We're getting people in as fast as possible, but it's about a 20 minute process. We encourage fans to leave 20 minutes earlier than usual," said Granger.

The arena has increased the number of available entrances and the staff working them. Granger says what has always been a secure venue is only getting safer.

"More peace of mind. It's a safe environment which is what we're looking for and knowing that when you come to the facility that it's safe," he said.

The doors open 90 minutes before tip-off for premium and season ticket holders and one hour ahead of the game for everyone else.
