MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The Memphis police officer shot by friendly fire is now out of the hospital.

Officer Willie Bryant was released on November 29.

According to police, Bryant was accidentally shot by a fellow officer as they served a drug-related warrant and a dog at the scene become aggressive.

The injured officer was wearing a bullet proof vest at the time, but he was shot in the back.

The shooting happened on November 8.

After the shooting, Memphis Police Department Director Toney Armstrong told Action News 5 the two officers involved were good friends.

"You're relying on people to make split-second decisions and sometimes things go bad. They go very, very badly and that's what this is," said Memphis Police Department Director Toney Armstrong.
