MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – University of Memphis students were on high alert Tuesday after being told there was a rape suspect on the run near the university. Now, we are being told it was all a lie.

The woman who police say made up the story about a sexual assault will face a judge Friday morning.

On Thursday, Anne Campbell, 19, confessed that she made up the story about being sexually assaulted Monday night. Memphis police charged her with making a false report.

But prior to her confession, there were many details that had people wondering.

Campbell claimed it happened on Mynders Avenue, which is a busy street where many students live.

Students received a text or e-mail from the university warning them of the reported attack.

"I was scared. I'm not from around here so like, Memphis a big crime city. I didn't know what to do," said student Savannah London. "My family was really nervous for me."

"I think it's really bad people making up stuff like that," said student John Kelsey. "I mean, it's a serious matter, the things like that she accused somebody of doing,"

According to Campbell's Facebook page, she is a Millington Central High class of 2011 graduate. She is studying English and Spanish at the University of Memphis.

Police have not yet released a motive for what they are now calling a false report.
