Kids and coats, an NAACP project

TEXARKANA, AR (KSLA) -

Kids in Texarkana got a much needed Christmas present on Friday: not toys or bicycles but coats.

One Texarkana organization made sure it would be a warm winter for as many children as possible.

"It's OK to have used coats, but new coats make them feel a lot better," says Erica Jackson, NAACP youth president.

The Greater Texarkana Chapter of the NAACP delivered coats today to several students at Dunbar and West 15th Street schools.

Benjamin Dennis, president of the Greater Texarkana NAACP says he took his concern to the youth division of the NAACP. They decided to provide at least 100 new coats to students at the two schools.

The first allotment of coats was delivered on Friday. NAACP officials say they hope to meet their goal as soon as possible. But they need help.

"Can we meet all the need? Of course not. But we can make a difference," Dennis says.

If you want to help out, then call the Greater Texarkana Chapter of the NAACP at 903-334-8066.
