MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) – Hopes are high for Gordon Elementary in North Memphis. School Board members could work out a plan to save the school from shutting down.
This is the latest twist in a number of very complicated decisions school leaders will have to make as Tennessee's Achievement School District (ASD) works to help under performing schools next fall.
According to The Commercial Appeal, there is now a plan to exclude Gordon Elementary from a list of schools targeted for possible closure in 2013.
It is all tied to a proposal to convert Humes Middle School into a magnet school to attract students of the performing arts.
A public hearing date on the proposal to re-purpose Humes Middle is now tentatively scheduled for Monday.
And you can expect a decision on whether Gordon Elementary becomes part of that re-purposing shortly after Humes' fate is decided.
There are strong feelings on both sides of this issue, so get ready to hear a lot of heated debates leading up to what happens.
