MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - According to a federal indictment the thefts happened in 2011 at the FedEx Worldwide Hub facility in Memphis.
"That's so low down," said LaShonda Dixon.
She doesn't think much of the 15 former FedEx employees accused of stealing money, gift cards and in one case even marijuana from the U.S. Mail. The mail was being processed through FedEx's world wide hub.
The accused are mainly from Memphis. One of the suspects is from Bolivar and another from Olive Branch. They are mostly in their 20's with the oldest being 50 year-old Deborah Belcher, charged with stealing items like Target and Wal-Mart gift cards.
22 year-old Argle Williamson is charged with stealing almost $7,000 in cash and marijuana.
Several of the people indicted are accused of stealing money from greeting cards people sent through the mail.
"I would be very upset," Dixon said.
"As big as Federal Express is even though they have their tight rules and all that," said Dean Brown. "They are a great company there's going to be problems. And the only thing I hope is that these people involved in this have to take responsibility."
FedEx sent a statement that said "FedEx has zero tolerance for criminal activity and regards the security of our customer shipments a top priority. We regularly work with law enforcement authorities around the world to insure our customers' interests are protected."
The 15 people indicted have not yet appeared in court and they all face possible jail time and a fines.
