MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Get ready to see thousands of people filling every seat at Church Of God In Christ's (COGIC) Mason Temple for a New Year's Eve service of praise and worship.

Organizers promise that it will be like no other that has ever happened before at COGIC's world headquarters.

The Mason Temple is where Dr. Martin Luther King gave his last speech. Now, they are ready to make history with the first New Year's Eve service ever held in the facility.

"Mason temple which represents so much to so many people of course to COGIC but then also to our community," said Bishop Brandon Porter.

Bishop Brandon Porter is organizing the service. It is called "Memphis At Mason" and is expected fill every seat inside.

"You know to be there from 9 p.m. until midnight and bring in a brand new year in a place that means so much to so many people," said Bishop Porter.

Gospel music superstars like Dottie Peoples have already signed on to perform free concerts at the event.

Porter says you will also see clothing and food giveaways similar to those he has hosted during other times of the year.

"And you come together and thank God for blessing. You to experience what you did in the year existing and then with hopes and expectation of the coming year," he said.

Bishop Porter was recently elected to COGIC's General Board. He hopes to use his new position to bring more events to Memphis.

"Yeah we've got several other conferences, maybe six or seven other conferences in COGIC and some of which have over 20,000 people or better," he explained.

And Porter hopes it is just a matter of time before COGIC's huge convocation is among the events you will one day see return to Memphis.

COGIC's Memphis At Mason New Year's Eve service will get underway at the temple at 9 p.m., December 31 and will run through midnight. It is free and everyone is welcome to attend.
