MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - It's important to recognize the contribution that Martoiya Lang made to the City of Memphis. Lang is the police officer who died in the line of duty last week. She was only 32 years old, a nine-year veteran of the Memphis Police Department and the dedicated mother to four children ranging in age from two to 14.

According to friends, Officer Lang knew what she wanted to be when she grew up. She wanted to be a police officer, and by all accounts, she was a good one.

It's a special person who is willing to take the risk on our behalf to do dangerous police work. Ten Memphis Police officers have been shot in the line of duty in the last year and a half.

Our hearts go out to Officer Lang's family. We will be thinking of her four daughters as we have the opportunity to spend time with time with our families this Christmas. On behalf of all of us at WMC-TV 5 and all of our partners in the week's "In the Line of Duty" fundraising drive, we want to thank everyone who stepped up to provide for the future of Officer Lang's family.

That's my turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
