MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - New details about a fatal crash Saturday on I-40 that took the life of an 8-year-old, and backed up traffic for hours.

A report from the state highway patrol shows 3 cars involved.   Two of the vehicles were sitting in a lane headed westbound when, according to the report, a Jeep came over the hilltop and slammed into one of the cars, flipping it over.

Quin-darious McGhay, 8, was killed in the crash.

The driver and another passenger were injured.  All were wearing seatbelts.

The driver of the Jeep, Bill Giannini of Lakeland was not injured.

TDOT's website reports that the crash happened around mile marker 27 at roughly 12:30 p.m.

There were major delays between Memphis and Jackson, TN going eastbound and westbound until late Saturday afternoon.

Investigators do not believe speed was a factor in the crash.  Possible charges are pending.
