MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A benefit concert is being planned for the family of fallen Memphis police officer Martoiya Lang.

Organizers of what is being called "A Night of Support and Praise in Honor of Officer Martoiya Lang" say they want her family to know the community is by their side for the long haul.

The voices of The Pacemakers soothed hearts at MPD Officer Martoiya Lang's funeral. Now, the talented officers will be joined Friday night by gospel singers from across the Mid-South for a free concert.

"If a simple song can give them a little reassurance, I'm all for it," said Deborah Thomas, who will be singing at the benefit concert.

Detective Thurmond Richardson, who served on MPD's Organized Crime Unit with Lang, is behind this latest showing of support.

"She loved her job and most importantly she loved her teammates and there wasn't anything she wouldn't do for a teammate," said Richardson.

Detective Richardson wants to take care of her family, with the help of his friends.

"They need to see that they have the support of the religious community," said Pastor Ricky Floyd, Pursuit of God Transformation Church.

"There are going to be singers of all types sorts and style. And we want everyone to come and be a part," said Courtney Franklin, gospel singer.

The concert will be held Friday at 6 p.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on Elvis Presley Boulevard.

It is a free event but donations for Officer Lang's daughters are encouraged.
