Family receives help from local property management company after tree falls on home

(WMC-TV) - A North Memphis woman and her teenaged son have new hope in the new year, after two trees split their home into pieces during the Christmas storm.

A housing developer saw Action News 5's Jason Miles' story on the family and is helping to turn their misfortune around.

Rebecca Miller and her son Antowione Dowdy got their first glimpse at their new home Monday.

Two trees crashed through their North Memphis home landing right on her bed and the family's Christmas meal.

Channel 5 was on the scene, that's Jason Miles reported neither Miller nor her landlord had insurance.

"Ms. Buehler was watching Channel 5," said David Upton of Buehler Homes.

She felt compelled to help and is putting the family up - free - for two months.

"It is the time of giving and the Buehler's wanted to do something to help this family," said Upton.

Miller and her son - injured playing high school football - have had to stay in separate homes over the holidays.

"I'm camera shy.  I don't like to say stuff, but I'm glad we got this house," said Anowione.

Just a few blocks from their old home New Year's Eve, crews cleaned out the new home that was in between rentals.

Miller says when she finally gets settled in, she'll make a Christmas meal for her son to celebrate the reason for the season.

"I thank God every day to see this year.  I thank Buehler for coming to my rescue," said Rebecca.

While they have a roof over their head, the house destroyed all of their furnishings and personal belongings.

Miller is working on getting beds, a stove and refrigerator.

The Buehler's bought her a starter basket of food for the kitchen.

They're collecting donations at 901-324-4922.
