MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – It is a piece of bronze art called Happy Travelers. It was donated to the Memphis Child Advocacy Center ten years ago. Originally, it featured a little girl pulling a little boy on a turtle. But now, that little girl is gone.

"It's based on a Native American myth that the turtle takes children on a journey around the world and the children represent joy and the turtle brings joy to the kids," said Beryl Wight, Communications Director, Memphis Child Advocacy Center.

The sign outside the Memphis Child Advocacy Center reads a child's safety is an adult's responsibility.

Staff members take that motto seriously and say some irresponsible person took a part of their statue.

"Whoever did this maybe didn't realize the importance of that little girl and what she means to kids who come here to the center and maybe they'll see it in their hearts to return that little girl," said Wight.

Wight says staff members first noticed part of the statue missing around Christmas.

She says whoever did it took some time to unleash it.

"Her feet were bolted to the foundation of the statue and she was also connected to the turtle's head," Wight said.

If you know who might have taken part of this statue, call Memphis Crime stoppers at 901-528-CASH.
