LINCOLN COUNTY, TN (WAFF) -
Two suspects in the deaths of six people along the Tennessee-Alabama border last October are in custody, on unrelated charges.
District Attorney General Robert Carter told The Associated Press that he has asked the state crime lab to expedite the analysis of crime scene evidence. Authorities have not released the names of the suspects or what charges they are being held on.
Lincoln County, Tennessee Sheriff Murray Blackwelder held a news conference with the district attorney Friday on the case. Blackwelder said within 48 hours of the slayings, the two suspects were in custody on unrelated charges, and have remained in custody since.
Six bodies were found at four separate crime scenes in Tennessee and Alabama. Three women and a baby were killed in Lincoln County, Tennessee, and two men were found dead in Madison County, Alabama.
The bodies of 22-year-old Chabreya Campbell, her 18-month-old son, Rico Ragland, and 21-year-old Amber McCaulley were found inside a home on Huntsville Highway in Fayetteville, Tennessee, on October 22.
A few hours later, investigators found the body of Jessica Brown at a home on Fox Wood Drive, just a few miles from the first crime scene.
The next day, Huntsville Police found Jeffrey Pope shot to death in a home on Ortega Circle. Lastly, utility crews found the body of Warren Crutcher in a wooded area off B H Reeves Road near the Alabama-Tennessee state line several hours after Pope was shot to death..
Sheriff's deputies searched the Flint River near Winchester Road in Madison County for possible evidence in the months after the crimes.
Lincoln County Sheriff, Murray Blackwelder, said he wants nothing more than to put the people responsible for this in jail, and they are working hard on putting pieces together.
Blackwelder said all of the victims were acquaintances.
