NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Tempers flared Tuesday night as neighbors got a chance to share their opinion on plans to build a gas pipeline through a state natural area.

Piedmont Natural Gas announced last year its plans to install a new line that will run about 14 miles, extending from Antioch through the Radnor Lake State Natural Area to Chickering Road in Belle Meade.

According to Piedmont, most of the pipeline would be installed by using a horizontal directional drill, and Radnor Lake would be traversed in a manner to minimize disturbance of the surface.

However, residents who spoke Tuesday at the Ellington Agricultural Center were concerned giving the go ahead to Piedmont would lead down a slippery slope.

There will be another informational meeting about the pipeline on Feb. 12 at the Edmundson Pike library.

If the plan is approved, it's expected that property owners will be asked to let crews dig on their property.
