MARION, AR -

(WMC-TV) - Students in Marion, Arkansas wore blue Tuesday as a way to honor a classmate whose family says took his own life as a result of being bullied.

Duncan Ballard was 14 years old. His parents describe him as different, but say he was also a smart, loving, and creative 8th grader who loved to write songs and sing.

At home New Year's Day, the teen went upstairs and killed himself.

Family members say multiple factors likely contributed to Ballard's ultimate decision.

A major one, they believe, is that he was often picked on by peers both in the neighborhood and at school.

Citing the sensitivity of the case, the Marion school superintendent declined to comment on the situation and on the school's bullying policy other than to say that the district has done what it needs to do.

Citing the fact that a juvenile was involved, Marion Police investigators declined comment as well, but they did say there is no criminal element to the case.

At this time, his parents also declined an interview, but say Facebook has been active with plenty of peers offering posthumous apologies to their son.

After his death, they found a song he had written about being tired of being bullied, something his family described as dangerous, perhaps to the point of being deadly.

Ballard's visitation took place Tuesday at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis. A service followed.

His parent donated his organs and say his heart and liver are already in use somewhere in Memphis.
