Joe Jackson led the way with 15 points, Shaq Goodwin added 12 points and eight rebounds in the win.
The Tigers led by as many as 27 in the first half, but the Pirates went on a 21-0 run spanning the end of the first half and start of the second to get the game within 5.
Shamarr Bowden and Maurice Kemp led the Pirates with 11 points each, while Miguel Paul hit 2-of-3 from beyond the arc to spur the run.
Memphis is now winner of 5 straight games.
The Tigers next travel to UAB for a Saturday night matchup with the Blazers.
