Kroger offers 750 flu shots during clinic

MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - With more than a dozen deaths in Arkansas and widespread cases reported in Tennessee and Mississippi, it's not too late to get a flu shot.

Six Mid-South-area Kroger locations hosted a flu super clinic Thursday.

As far as health goes, Andy Daltroff doesn't want his luck to run out.

"I just figured it was better safe than sorry at this point," said Daltroff.

Especially since he knows people who've already had bouts with this year's flu.

"I've got about 30 guys working for me and I had one out last week. He said he was wanting to come back to work a little early. I said, no, I don't want you in the hospital. He said, he already went. There was a 12 to 15 hour wait," said Daltroff.

Doctors said the season may not have hit its peak yet.

The Shelby County Health Department has been suggesting the flu shot for months.

"Just the demand has been much, much higher this year and not everybody was prepared for it. So we've managed to get the flu shots in and we're taking care of that for anybody that wants to come in," said Kroger spokesperson Joe Bell.

Kroger turned six of its 42 Shelby County locations into super clinics on Thursday only, offering 750 flu shots each.

"I needed to bring my mom in and she's 87, so I thought you know I really should go ahead and get vaccinated to be on the safe side. I'm pretty healthy, but why take chances," said flu shot recipient Connie Adcock.
