Man 'preparing' for zombies with drugs, weapons stockpile

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – Post apocalyptic zombie attacks are all the rage on cable TV, many movies, and the annual Beale street zombie walk.

Those may have influenced 34 year-old Kristen Miller of Memphis. He told deputies he was preparing for the end of the world.

"It's hard to tell if he was serious or not, but that's what he said," said Shelby County Sheriff's spokesman Chip Washington.

Miller was charged this week with growing 14 pounds of pot inside his home on Cloverdale Drive.

He was also charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a bunch of weapons.  His alleged cache included at least three assault rifles and high-capacity clips.

"So, we're very happy we were able to make this arrest to keep these weapons off the street and, more importantly, keep him from harming someone," said Washington.

Fayte Cotton has lived on Cloverdale for 56 years. He watched the sheriff's office narcotics unit raid Miller's home Wednesday.

Cotton never suspected his neighbor was into drugs or assault weapons.

"And I'm going to sleep with them around me every night like that?" asked Cotton.  "My goodness."

Cotton was glad the raid happened.

"That makes me sleep better," said Cotton.

"The assault weapon part of it was the real concerning part of it for us," said Washington.

Miller was under surveillance for a while.  But investigators were surprised by the number of guns they found inside his home, not to mention the story he came up with.

Miller is being held on a $60,000 bond.
