Convicted killer to face judge after kidnapping

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The photo in this story is J.D. Marr's mug shot, after relatives of his ex-girlfriend Donna McDonald rescued her from a 24-hour kidnapping ordeal.

Marr has a bandage on top of his head, the whites of his eyes are red, his face is covered with cuts and bruises, and he's wearing a neck brace.

A Memphis Police affidavit says McDonald called Marr about 700 dollars he owed her.

Marr then showed up at her town house Friday unannounced and offered to carry her groceries inside.

When McDonald's current boyfriend called her, police say Marr went into a rage.

The affidavit says he pushed her against the wall, and threatened to cut her neck with his pocket knife.

From Friday to Saturday, he wouldn't let her leave or accept calls.

He reportedly slept at the foot of the bed to prevent McDonald from leaving.

Somehow, McDonald was able to text loved ones "911" on her cell phone.

McDonald's nephews then showed up at her home, fought Marr and held him down until police arrived.

According to court documents, Marr was already under a restraining order for assaulting McDonald in the past.

And in 1988, he was convicted with Second Degree Murder for killing another ex-girlfriend.

Quick thinking and seizing the opportunity to reach out for help may have been what saved Donna McDonald's life.

Tonight, her ex-boyfriend is in jail on $100,000 bond.

Marr is charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping, and violating his protection order.

He is due in court Tuesday morning.
