MEMPHIS, TN -
(WMC-TV) - Determined parents camped outside the board of education during some of the coldest days and nights this week.
Now, these parents are among the first to have those much sought applications for optional school.
With temperatures in the 20s parents loaded up on coffee, huddled in groups and hooked up all kind of devices to keep warm.
"Well we got a propane tank with two burners and we huddle together to keep warm," said parent Gary Davis.
That's just some of what Davis was willing to do to make sure his daughter gets an optional school application.
"We want to give her the best chance that she has to become everything that she wants to be in life," said Davis.
And Davis was just one of hundreds of parents who camping out at the board of education.
For more than four days, the area became a temporary address for parents eager to get their kids into high achievement optional classes.
But the talk among some parents was that they want to see some changes to the optional school application process.
Something that dosen't involve days of waiting outside in the cold.
"I think there should be a lot easier way for you to be able to give your kids what they want without having to suffer through things like this," said parent Marsha Walker.
