(WMC-TV) – A shooting involving a Memphis police officer is under investigation. This is the fourth time in almost a month that a Memphis police officer has been involved in a shooting.

The latest one happened just after 6 p.m. Wednesday at a convenience store in the 900 block of South Highland.

The male who the officer shot is at the MED in critical condition. And the officer is off the job Thursday morning - after he was routinely relieved of duty.

This all went down at the Quick and Easy Convenience Store located at 931 South Highland.

Officers responded there to a call about three males in the parking lot who were armed with a handgun, and possibly talking about robbing someone.

When police rolled up to check it out, investigators say the officer noticed one of the suspects leaning in a car. The officer asked the suspect to show him his hands.

Instead, police say the suspect pulled a gun from the car and pointed it at the officer.

The officer then fired his weapon - shooting the suspect. The officer was not hurt.

We won't find out that officer's name until the debriefing process is complete.

The wounded suspect remains at the MED in critical condition.

We will continue to update this story as new information comes in. Please continue to check back with wmctv.com for the latest.
