MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - There have been four Memphis police officer-involved shootings in less than one month, but the police director said the public never hears about how often officers use restraint.

Customers at the Quick and Easy on South Highland weren't surprised that an 18-year-old suspect in the parking lot was shot by police after pointing a gun at an officer.

"Can't blame them they've got a job to do that's what they're out here for, to have guns to protect us from the idiots out here with them that don't need them," said Quick and Easy customer Michael Davis.

Wednesday night's shooting was the third MPD officer involved shooting in 2013.

That's compared to 14 shootings in all of 2012.

Memphis police director Toney Armstrong said each time the threat is real.

"And in each and every one of these individual cases we're recovering guns, not things that look like guns, not things that we thought were guns — we're recovering fully loaded guns," said Armstrong.

Three suspects were arrested unharmed Wednesday night after firing several shots at officers who were attempting to serve a narcotics warrant on South Perkins.
