Bishop Byrne to close spring 2013

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The Catholic Diocese of Memphis plans to close Bishop Byrne Middle and High School this upcoming spring.

The class of 2013 will be the last graduates of the 46-year-old school.

Students in grades seven through 11 will be encouraged to apply to Memphis Catholic or other schools in the system.

The diocese said this decision was made after years of rising costs and decreasing enrollment.

That decision is also part of a new initiative to enhance academics and student life at Memphis Catholic middle and high school.
