Councilman 'annoyed' by Pinnacle's move

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Pinnacle's departure to Minnesota may not leave the city of Memphis holding as big a bag as some first thought.

But, one councilman believes the bluff city is getting a raw deal.

Mayor A C Wharton and others downplayed the incentives given the airline by the city after its announcement regarding the relocation Thursday.

Leaders said the only perks were 650 free parking spaces.

After some checking, Councilman Myron Lowery said millions of dollars in tax breaks were never approved.

Not that it makes the airline's decision to move any easier to swallow.

"I'm a little annoyed. No doubt about it, anytime we make concessions for a company then they leave — but they were bankrupt so we can give them a little break. But I am a little annoyed at all this," said Lowrey.

Lowery said perks are part of doing business, and he would not be opposed to giving another company incentives to fill the void Pinnacle leaves behind.
