MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - It's his first interview since announcing his resignation as superintendent of Memphis City Schools.

Kriner Cash said the high point of his career was when the President spoke at the Booker T. Washington High School graduation.

He said the challenges during his tenure included the funding fight with Memphis City Schools, rapidly changing teacher standards, and the surrender of the school charter.

Cash's advice for the next superintendent, as Memphis and Shelby County schools merge, is to be transparent.

Less than a week before Dr. Kriner Cash's reign as Memphis superintendent officially ends, he thanked the Bluff City for the last four and a half years.

"The community was tremendous during that time and I really thank the Memphis community," said Cash.

On a personal note, he thanked the Bluff City for its kindness when he lost his wife.

He plans to return to education after spending time with family.

Cash's final day is January 31, but he will consult with the school board until August.

"I really wanted to take the opportunity to say goodbye," said Cash.
