(WMC-TV) – The civil trial of Southaven Mayor Greg Davis got underway Monday with new evidence coming to light.

Two Southaven aldermen got a big surprise Monday in Jackson, Mississippi when they learned that executive sessions they thought were private, were recorded. Also there was a bombshell from Greg Davis' former wife.

Suzann Davis spent the morning on the stand testifying about trips the couple took and about counseling in Arizona.

"The fact that I couldn't not be his wife," Suzann Davis answered when asked about the reason for threats to commit suicide.

Suzann Davis said she also discussed with the mayor on another occasion her husband's now partner Jansen Fair who will also likely be called to testify.

"We sat out back of the guest house after I found out he was still communicating with Jansen," she said.

"I'm tired," Alderman Greg Guy said. "I've been on the stand half a day. It's stressful because you have to recall a lot of things that happened two years ago, a year and a half ago."

Guy told the court there were really no rules in place for the mayor to submit documents for reimbursement.

Guy and Southaven Alderman Ronnie Hale testified they contacted the state auditor's office about concerns they had about the mayor's spending. Hale said they questioned the mayor.

"He assured us numerous times they were legitimate business expenses, not a problem," Hale said.

Hale said the concerns were discussed in executive session.  Hale and Greg Guy also learned in court that those executive sessions were recorded. Greg Davis' defense has 40 hours of recordings that could be revealing. Davis left the courtroom without commenting.

Southaven Alderman Ronnie Hale will be questioned Tuesday by Greg Davis' attorney. It is possible some of those recorded executive sessions will be played.
