MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – He's going from Grizzly to Raptor.  Longtime Memphis player Rudy Gay is Toronto-bound.

"I think it's a horrible decision," said fan Shannon Wilson.

News of the trade hit most fans Wednesday before happy hour.

"I think it just opens up for more moves next year," said fan Jim McBride.  "I just hope it doesn't ruin this year."

Many fans took to Twitter.  Action News 5's Ursula Madden said she was feeling heartsick hearing news of the trade.

Newspaper columnist Wendi Thomas was more dramatic.  She invoked the Lord's name in the midst of her frustration over why Rudy was leaving.

Meanwhile, fellow Grizzly Mike Conley simply tweeted "wow."

"Rudy Gay is a popular player in Memphis and as soon as it happened on Gary's show, the phone lines started jamming," said Brad Carson of ESPN Radio in Memphis.

He works the board during the Gary Parrish Show.

"I think we all knew for a long time now this day was coming one way or another," Parrish said.

The radio studio is filled with number 22's likeness.

"You know, we drafted him out of UCONN to Memphis," said Carson.  "This was his first job and a lot of people are attached to Rudy."

A person with knowledge of the situation said of the Gay trade that it's the latest and most dramatic move in the Memphis Grizzlies makeover.
