MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – A Memphis man has been charged with second degree murder after the death of his wife. Thursday, Ralph Carr was placed behind bars on a $500,000 bond.

The body of his wife, Cheryl Jones, was found Wednesday morning at a Hickory Hill apartment complex.

Police say the investigation led them to Carr, who eventually admitted to striking his girlfriend in the head with a hammer after an argument.

Cheryl Jones, who was also known as "Precious," would have celebrated her 50th birthday soon.

Carr is set to appear in court on February 1.
