OXFORD, MS -

(WMC-TV) - When the Ole Miss women's lacrosse team hits the field this weekend, they'll do it in honor of Sarah and John Wheat.

For Sarah and John, the sport of lacrosse was their passion.

The two siblings were killed in a car crash last year, and now Sarah's team is honoring them on the field.

Sarah helped start the women's club team at Ole Miss where she was the goalie.

The siblings were killed by a suspected drunk driver in late October.

Sarah Wheat was number 1, whether the number was etched in lacrosse jersey or not.

"Everytime we step out on the field is for Sarah, every practice is for Sarah," said team president Rachel Zurheide.

Zurheide still can't believe her goalie and friend's life was cut short.

Sarah and John Wheat were in a head on collision in late October.

John Strickland is now charged with two counts of aggravated DUI.

But the team is channeling their emotions into a positive.

This weekend's tournament will be called The Wheat Memorial Game.

For Zurheide, it became real when she and some others went to see the Wheats at their graves.

The siblings are buried next to each other with sticks in a cross.

The team said it's hard to let go, but are ready to play Saturday with a purpose.

"We spend a lot more time together, we're just trying to be stronger because of it," said Zurheide.

A moment of silence will be held for the Wheats before the start of the women's team's first game at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
