Flu shuts down entire school

SOMERVILLE, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Students at a Tennessee school are out of class due to the flu season.

School leaders at the Fayette Academy decided late Wednesday afternoon to close school Thursday and Friday because of an outbreak of the flu and stomach virus.

A steady stream of ammonia vapor is being injected into every classroom at the school.

Crews at Fayette Janitorial have been on site since Thursday wiping everything down.

"Sinks, desks, anything anybody would be touching with their hands," said Ronnie Hodges with Fayette Janitorial.

Hodges says the special ammonia vapor has a residual effect and will keep the school cleaner longer.

School officials say more than 100 students and seven teachers were sick Wednesday.

They decided to close the school before things got any worse.

"Wash your hands, wash your hands. Anything you would touch, we're wiping down," added Hodges.

Cleaning crews will be at the school all weekend long disinfecting the entire campus.

Student will return to class on Monday.
