CORINTH, MS -

(WMC-TV) - As girls start the search for the perfect dress, the boys are brainstorming the most creative way to ask them to the big dance.

A Mississippi teenager set the bar high with a unique prom proposal - with a little help from mom and her business.

Asking a girl to the prom may be a little nerve wracking for the average teenager, but Zach Marcinek put his nerves aside and posed the question for the entire town of Corinth to see.

"I will admit, I was a little bit nervous because I've never really asked a girl to prom," he said.

The senior painted his question outside of his mother's corner café before surprising Scarlett Helms.

"My jaw dropped when I first saw it, I couldn't believe it, and he walked outside and had a big smile," said Helms.

"When she got there and I saw her smile, it just gave me butterflies," explained Marcinek.

Helms is one year older than Marcinek and he did not get to take her last year, so he wanted to make this year count.

"I wanted to give her a redo and make it the experience that she wanted," he said.

After the couple's picture was in the town's newspaper, they were the talk of the school. Now, other students are challenged to top Marcinek's proposal.

The beaming senior offered this advice:

"Be creative, for prom and stuff like that, you ain't gotta throw a lot of money in it."

Zach's mom says she is in no hurry to remove the paint from her window, even though the prom is still more than one month away.
