MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - The search is on for the person accused of shooting a man to death in his own driveway, in front of his mother.

The deadly shooting happened on the 100 block of West Mallory Avenue in South Memphis.

"We was sleep, only thing I know is we heard gunshots. That was what woke us up out the bed, two gunshots and the lady started screaming sayin' her son was hurt, somebody dial 911," said Richard Mason, who lives in the neighborhood.

Even though Mason called police, the events that had already transpired could not be reversed.

Walter Marlowe, 28, was killed.

Investigators say around 2 a.m. Friday, a car pulled into the driveway of Marlowe's home as his mother returned from an early morning trip to the store.

Police say two men in hoodies approached with the intent to rob her.

Marlowe's cousin told Action News 5 that the victim was inside the home but stepped outside when he heard the commotion.

"He was just a innocent bystander and he came out to help somebody," said the victim's cousin.

Marlowe was rushed to The MED but died a short time later.

Police are now sifting through evidence and tips with the hop they will find Marlowe's killer.

Meanwhile, his family is planning his funeral.
