City council to discuss civil rights icon controversy

MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A crowd is forming outside the Memphis City Council for an item on the agenda that could add the name of a civil rights icon to a park named after a KKK Confederate.

Councilwoman Janis Fullilove, who was very vocal at the last meeting, arrived at City Hall. She is against the idea that taxpayers are funding a park named after Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest.

Councilman Bill Boyd says Forrest was a great man, but he believes the name of civil rights icon Ida B. Wells should not be added to the park, but she should instead have her own monument.
