MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Stax Museum produced a musical production as a way to honor Black History Month -- and to give students a unique learning experience.

The production is called "The Sacred Side of Soulsville". It is just one of the ways Stax Museum is celebrating Black History Month.

"And it starts out it tries to tell the story of soul music with its beginnings in slavery and how basically, the music of the slaves and the way they communicated with one another. That's the root of every form of American music, original American music," said Tim Sampson, Stax Museum.

Written and scored by Stax instructors, the musical give students a chance to demonstrate their skills and perform alongside Stax stars who were making hits long before the students were even born.

The headliner for the show is The Rance Allen Group. The group is nationally recognized and Rance Allen says he is thrilled to be working with the students.

"It kind of causes the situation to be full circle," said Rance Allen. "You've got the greats from the past coming together with the greats of the future and I think it's a wonderful thing."

This first performance was free for students. The paid showing gets underway at 7:30 p.m.
