TPAC cautions against second-hand tickets for 'The Lion King'

NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

One of the most anticipated shows on Broadway is coming to Nashville, but officials at the Tennessee Performing Arts Center say it comes with a warning.

The Lion King will soon take the stage in Music City for the first time since 2006.

With such a high demand for tickets to the Tony Award-winning show, TPAC is cautioning theatergoers to be leery of secondary ticket sellers, brokers and scalpers who may not be able to provide quality tickets.

"What they're trying to do is sell you tickets in advance of having them in hand. And sometimes they're selling them for three-times as much," said Tony Marks, public relations manager at TPAC. "They can't guarantee you where the seats are going to be. And if you have a problem with the seat, you're not going to get any help from them."

Marks said the best way to avoid issues is to buy directly from the TPAC website or at the box office downtown.

"So if there is a problem with the seat - if they need to exchange at the last minute, if they have any kind of problem - we can address that, and we do that every day," he said.

The show will be in town for four weeks beginning on May 7, and tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 8.
