Andy's Got Your Back on fraudulent mortgage brokers

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - Your mortgage broker could be a "dream-buster". A couple learned that the hard way when they hired the wrong person to help them convert an old church into a party venue.

John Sanders and his wife, Gloria, dreamed of the church's transformation. They were put in touch with a mortgage broker. That broker was Ann Ursiny. And she was also a fraud.

Postal inspectors say Ursiny strung the Sanders along with phony fees and permits, with no connection at all to the old church.

"We saw this money was funneled directly to bank accounts to this individual in Florida," said U.S. Postal Inspector Andrew Jones. "Ms. Ursiny took everything from their 401K, their retirement funds."

The couple is now in a terrible financial position.

Action News 5's Chief Consumer Investigator Andy Wise urges you to always vet the credentials of a mortgage broker with your state's consumer affairs agency.

Inspectors eventually arrested Ann Ursiny. She is now serving six years in prison.
