NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE -

(WMC-TV) – State Senator Ophelia Ford made the point in her unique style at a judiciary committee meeting in Nashville.

"I am a handgun carrier and I have been since I was 24, I'm only 25 now though," said Ford.

The topic: allowing handgun permit carriers to put their weapons in the trunk of their vehicles at schools and businesses.

"It's just a hard thing. You can't do it both ways, I only have one vote, we all do," Ford stated.

Senator Ford says she got her handgun to protect her and her daughter.  She says the problems do not come from permit holding gun owners.  And she believes people do have the right to have a gun with a permit.

"Unfortunately there's so much happening these days, people who have never thought about a handgun are wanting to get one."

Concerning tougher gun laws, Ford stated, "I'm hearing that there needs to be tougher laws for us handgun carriers, bit I think it's tough enough."

Senator Ford also spoke about her new look.  She has a sense of humor about that look that's now gone viral.

"Coming back to session, I just wanted to do something fun and different.  I've always been a daring woman," Ford said.  "Maybe I can get me a blonde one I can get me some straight you know in two or three different colors. And keep this up throughout session."

State Senator Ophelia Ford is not exactly sure how she feels about the guns in trunks legislation.  It is still in the discussion stage and she has some questions she wants answered.
