Students dodge bats in university dormitory

Posted: Updated:
STARKVILLE, MS -

(WMC-TV) - Bats moved into a dormitory at Mississippi State University in Starkville.

The unwanted roommates are causing students to run and duck for cover in the hallways.

University officials are working to get rid of the bats, but it is not as easy as it sounds.

The bats have endangered species protections, so one at a time, the bats fly out of the building built in 1965 and a special device will not let them back in.

"It's just been chaotic because it's in the hall and people are freaking out," said student Emma Crawford, who describes the situation as "intense".

So far, no one has been injured by the bats and school officials say they will keep working until the bats are completely gone.
