Nashville State reaches student enrollment milestone

Posted: Updated:
NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -

Nashville State Community College is celebrating a big milestone. Student enrollment has topped 10,000 for the first time in the school's 40-year history.

During the past five years alone, enrollment has jumped by nearly 40 percent, school officials said.

Last year, the community college opened new satellite campuses in Antioch and Clarksville.

"We've seen a lot of growth at both of those new locations. We also seen a lot of growth college-wide and in our online programs. And we've tried to reach out to students and offer them education in a way that's very flexible," said Kimberly Estep, vice president of academic affairs at Nashville State.

The college's president said the increasing support from the business community and political leaders has also helped the college grow.
