MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) – The massive storm in the northeast is causing so much trouble it has driven some stranded passengers in the Mid-South to tears.

The Mid-South is not seeing the effects of that storm in its own forecast but it is having a significant impact on FedEx and commercial flights in and out of Memphis International Airport.  New York and Boston flights out of Memphis International Airport were canceled Friday.

Music lover Paul Benjamin was too busy exploring the blues in the Mid-South to worry about the monster storm heading for his hometown of Portland, Maine.

"I was actually looking forward to getting home we've been gone since January 5th," Benjamin said.  "Twenty-four to 30 inches of snow with 50 mile an hour winds, they're talking 25 foot seas, I'm hoping I'll be able to find my car under the snow."

Benjamin is one of the many travelers stranded in Memphis while the Northeast braces for a blizzard.

It will be Monday before Robert Simpson can head home.

"We got a call while we were still down in Mississippi that the flight had been canceled from Detroit to Portland, Maine because of the storm," Simpson explained.  "There's plenty to do we just have to stay in a hotel somewhere and we can go downtown."

Jessica Tarjan from Switzerland did not budget for a three day delay.  And the airline did not offer her a free room.

"I guess I should have checked the weather before I came here," Tarjan said.  "They said due to weather they're not obligated to look for anything so they just gave me list of hotels."

But some heading into the eye of a massive winter storm are not in any hurry to get home.

"Memphis is a great place to be stuck.  I gotta face the music when I get home," said Benjamin.

The storm is have a major impact on FedEx.

According to a spokesperson, service delays should be expected in cities getting hit by the storm.  They added nothing is more important than the safety of their team members.
