MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - A young beagle pup is recovering after undergoing surgery after being the victim of a hit-and-run.

The beagle, who is named Elvis, was found by animal control officers in Tipton County. He suffered a severely broken pelvis and had surgery Friday.

According to Dr. Robert Parker, Elvis is doing remarkably well since the operation.

Support for Elvis is pouring in from across the country. Over the weekend, his story became a sensation and people are sending him Valentine's Day cards with donations to "Fix Elvis' Pelvis".

Elvis is currently at the Shelby Center Hospital for Animals in Memphis.

A volunteer is flying all the way from Boston to come and drive Elvis to New England where he will start a long course of physical therapy.

About $900 has been raised so far to help cover the $3,500 it cost to save the hit-and-run victim.

Anyone who would like to donate to help cover Elvis' medical costs can call the Shelby Center Hospital for Animals at (901)372-2215.
