Lauren Squires

Lauren Squires joined the Action News 5 team in January 2013 as a reporter/video journalist. Originally from the Midwest, she was born in Omaha but grew up in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Her career started when, at 17, she took a job as a production assistant at KCRG TV-9 in Cedar Rapids. From there, her passion for photography and video grew into an understanding of storytelling, working on a deadline, and producing content daily.

In eight years, she has served as a production assistant, intern, web reporter, producer, anchor, sports photographer and reporter.

Her first full-time job in television was at KWWL-TV as a bureau reporter in Dubuque, Iowa (where she met her husband).

Prior to working at Action News 5, Lauren was an investigative backpack journalist at WOWT-TV in Omaha.

Lauren enjoys covering local news because it often has an impact on viewers' daily lives. Whether it is a story about crime, schools, or a person trying to make a difference, stories are about people and always should be.

Some of her most memorable stories have been told while following World War II veterans to Washington D.C. for Honor Flights. She also covered Pope Benedict XVI's visit to the United States and the first Presidential Inauguration of President Barack Obama.

She even traveled to Ireland and Haiti to tell stories about people making a difference worldwide. 

Lauren has received several awards for her work from the Iowa Broadcast News Association, Northeast Broadcast News Association, and the AP Great Plains.

Lauren is a graduate of Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa and interned at Action News 5 prior to becoming an official member of the team.

In her free time, Lauren enjoys photography, music, sports, volunteering and spending time with her husband, Scott.

Lauren is an advocate for breast cancer awareness, her mother is a nine year breast cancer survivor.  She is a huge Green Bay Packer and Iowa Hawkeye fan.
