Collins Tuohy shares 'sweet' success

Posted: Updated:

MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC-TV) – Collins Tuohy is one smart cookie.  An Oscar winning movie has been made about her family. Her brother just won the Super Bowl, and she's embarked on a business venture that's seeing some very sweet success.

Collins Tuohy recently watched her brother Michael Oher win the Super Bowl.

"It was probably one of the most magical moments of my life thus far," she said.

Wednesday, Tuohy is making some magic of her own as co-owner of the Whimsy Cookie Company in Memphis.

"We say that our cookies are addictive," Tuohy said. "I really think that they are."

Laurie Suriff founded the company five years ago.

"Started in my home making them for friends and family, and it really took off from day one," Suriff said.

With Tuohy as a teammate, customers are lining up out the door and include many celebrities and of course, the NFL.

"Michael loves our cookies, and he actually ordered them for the entire team at Christmas time," Tuohy explained.

Every cookie is made from scratch, then decorated by hand, which is a painstaking task.

Between batches Tuohy still makes time for motivational speaking and her family's Make it Happen Foundation, following a recipe for success instilled in her by mom and dad.

"He's been really encouraging, and my mom has as well. However she doesn't have anything to do with cooking so this is way out of her element," Tuohy said.

And there are bigger plans for the Whimsy Cookie Company. Tuohy and her partner want to make a lasting impression in the baking industry, and they are considering starting a franchise.
