YOUR TURN: Lawsuit against Memphis

Posted: Updated:

(WMC-TV) - This week's "Your Turn" segment goes to John Lewis. Lewis is one of many people commenting on the Action News 5 Facebook page about a $2.5 million lawsuit filed against the City of Memphis. The lawsuit alleges that seven off-duty police officers brutalized two men near a downtown hotel just hours after Officer Tim Warren was killed in 2011.

Here's Lewis' comment:

"I thought the officers were not on duty when the incident took place and that they were all drinking, so how can the district attorney now say they were operating within the scope of their jobs? Since when is a police officer who is off duty and drinking in a bar considered to be on the job? Yeah, I know the old saying that a police officer is never off the job, but if they were drinking and/or intoxicated, the city should not be standing behind them. The lawsuit will probably be settled out of court without a lot of fanfare."

That's John Lewis's turn. Now it's your turn. To comment on this segment or anything else, email yourturn@wmctv.com or call 800-465-1210.
